YanZiBian Teaching Trip
In 2008, the small rural town of YanZiBian, China suffered a devastating earthquake. To help with financial and emotional troubles, the KCCAA Youth Hope Fund began organizing mission trips during the summer. Leaders and assistant leaders will be elected at the first meeting for this event. In preparation for these trips, volunteers would prepare teaching materials for English, PE, Music, and Art classes to teach the elementary and middle schoolers in this town. Volunteers would teach multiple classes a day for a week to both educate the children there and give a taste of American culture. Preparation also includes performances for the annual talent show hosted at both the middle and elementary schools. These may include dances, musical performances, skits, or other skills that volunteers may have. Before the week of teaching begins, volunteers will visit one or multiple homes of students who have experienced severe financial setbacks. During these visits, the volunteers will provide gifts as well as scholarships to the kids and interact with them through games and other activities. Other activities include annual basketball and soccer games, seminars, and various fun classes that volunteers can participate in such as calligraphy and dance classes.
